Demonstration by Manuela Pilz
Manuela has invited some local Gold Coasters to come and sit for her. She will be drawing two different sitters during the demonstration and will be working with charcoal and pencil with toned paper. She will be happy to explain her process and materials as she draws these quick studies.
About the Artist
Manuela Pilz was born in Berlin, Germany and then grew up in Sydney, Australia. Since then she has lived in the UK, Portugal and Spain. She completed her Fine Art Bachelor Degree at Sheffield Hallam University, where she studied painting and printmaking with Anne Grebby. She also completed her teacher training at Greenwich Universtiy and taught English to International students which has greatly influenced her teaching style. Since then she has taught art in the UK, Portugal, Spain and Australia at university, primary and secondary school level. In 2020 Manuela started her private artschool The Drawing Room on the Gold Coast and conducts weekend workshops as well as 5 day retreats in Queensland and Northern NSW. Her passion has always been drawing and painting the figure from life and portraiture. Today Manuela spends half of the year in Queensland and the other in Tasmania where she has found landscape painting calling her.
Her recent career highlights was winning the first prize for Portraiture at the Darcy Doyle Art Awards, being a finalist for the Lethbridge 20,000 in 2019, winning the Watts Atelier (click for link) Master Skill Building Challenge in 2016 judged by James Gurney and studying at the Florence Academy in Italy under Jura Bedic, Taylor Scarlet Powell and Tanvi Pathare in 2017. Much time was spent studying at the Salisbury Atelier in Brisbane. In 2019 she spent some time studying at Julian Ashton School of Art in Sydney where she continued to study oil painting and portraiture.
