Rachel Cant
Cunnamulla Colour

Soft Pastel

Near Cunnamulla, late one winter afternoon, on a road I'd driven many times before, I found myself in another world. The scrub had opened up to an ancient plain, covered in an ocean of grasses and herbage as far as the eye could see. This time, it was a season of plenty. The sun's rays were fighting against the creeping shadows, it wouldn't be long and the fleeting glow of exquisite colour would be gone. The old fence and yards gave me a focus amongst what was, an almost overwhelming feast for the eyes. They represented a time past, weathered but still standing. My medium of choice, soft pastel, enabled me to capture the essence and beauty of this closing day.

Size: 71 × 53 cm
