Harmony in Bloom

colour pencils and graphite pencils on white paper

"Harmony in Bloom" encapsulates the essence of my cultural journey and personal growth. This portrait of a woman with flowing hair adorned by a magnificent arrangement of native Australian flowers symbolizes the harmonious blend of my Chinese heritage and Australian experiences. Born and raised in China, I moved to Australia at 18 to pursue education, eventually finding love and establishing my family on the Gold Coast. The intricate floral details represent the vibrant diversity and beauty of my cultural fusion. The combination of color pencils and graphite pencil further symbolizes the harmony of this cultural blend, highlighting the delicate yet resilient nature of blooming in a new land while honoring one's roots.

About Xiaoyu Shi

Born and raised in China, I moved to Australia at the age of 18 in 2004 to pursue my studies. Settling on the Gold Coast, I met my husband and together we raised our family. While I have always had a deep interest in art, it wasn't until 2019 that I began my professional artistic journey, studying under the guidance of Martina Pook. Martina's dedication and passion for art have greatly nurtured and inspired me. My work reflects the blend of my Chinese heritage and Australian experiences, using art as a medium to express and celebrate my unique cultural background.
