Craig Addley
Big Sandhills, Moreton Island

Oil on canvas

The stark white sand and break in vegetation of the Big Sandhills are a recognisable visual maker for boaties in Moreton Bay. On this day, we approached the sandhills at low tide and had to walk the last hundred meters through the crystal clear water, marvelling at stingrays and whiting darting across our path. The sandhills here have a unique sound of wind blown sand that travels downhill and through the scattered pines that sit at its base. The high level cloud that day had a sculptural quality that towered over the island, with the sunlight casting endless patterns and lazy waves of light below.

Size: 86 × 86 cm
