Elena Churilova
Bachelor’s Cave (Drunk’s Pocket)

Pastel on paper

This painting is all about human presence. It is an attempt to show the personality without depicting the person directly:
This composition was painted from life and all objects in it hint at the solitary lifestyle in the Bachelor's Cave. A wine bottle, a single glass filled with red wine, a closed black umbrella - set against a blurred kitchen environment - humorously evoke a sense of quiet domesticity and contemplation. The scattered coins imply a story of a night and a moment of reflection. What do you see here?

Size: 72 × 59 cm
