Yoshie Hughes
Where He Stood

Oil on Canvas

This work captures a quiet moment of reflection, inspired by the majestic presence of the Blue Mountains and in remembrance of the late John Wilson, whose teachings deeply influenced my journey as a painter. The landscape stands as both a tribute and a mirror—expressing the stillness, strength, and gentle clarity I felt through his brushwork and guidance. In painting this scene, I hoped to honour not only a place but a legacy—a way of seeing beauty in light, shadow, and silence.

Through this piece, I invite the viewer to pause, breathe, and stand still with me—where he once stood.

Size: 46 × 61 cm

About Yoshie Hughes

Yoshie Hughes was born in Hokkaido, Japan, and moved to Australia in 1996, where she started a new family and rediscovered her passion for art. After a 20-year break from painting, a serendipitous encounter with artist Kevin Taylor in 2011 reignited her creative path. Within a year, she received a Highly Commended Award at the Royal Queensland Art Society. Since then, she has held solo exhibitions in six cities, published an art book, and exhibited internationally. Her work—often inspired by the ocean, landscapes, and people—expresses warmth, gentleness, and a quiet strength, aiming to share love and courage through every brushstroke.
