Acrylic on linen

My process is deeply embedded in direct experience and observation. Each painting begins with a journey, often to sites of historical and cultural significance. I am drawn to the impermanence of nature, those fleeting moments—a particular quality of light, a pattern of reflection. The trees are central to my interest ,they populate my canvases and stand as sentinels of time, their forms both anchoring the composition and speaking to nature's enduring yet ever-changing presence.

About Paula Lindley

Lindley's artistic practice is deeply informed by her distinguished career as an Educator at the National Gallery of Victoria, where she developed an intimate understanding of Australian landscape painting traditions and the profound contributions of Indigenous and Torres Strait Islander artists, whose deep connection to country has shaped Australian artistic heritage.

Lindley creates works that explore the complex layers of history embedded within the Australian landscape, capturing transient moments with expressive brushstrokes and a vibrant palette. Her work challenges viewers to look beyond surface beauty to consider the deeper historical narratives that shape our understanding of place.
