Summer Day Invitation
Soft pastel on paper
My work is deeply connected to memory and relationship. This piece was inspired by a visit to the Bay of Fires, in the middle of summer with my family. On a warm day, the cool, clear water was beckoning. I recreated the coolness and transparency of the water and beauty of the rocks through layering and textural application of the soft pastel medium.

About Karen Christiansen
I have been painting with the medium of soft pastel for 10 years and hold Accomplished Pastelist status with the Pastel Society of Australia. I was awarded 'Pastelist of the Year 2025', by the Pastel Society of Australia and have had my paintings published in the international Pastel Magazine. I paint to communicate my experience of the world around me, especially focussing on portraits and landscapes.
I love to share my constant learnings with others, through classes, demonstations and workshops.
