Rainbow Dahlia

On a large scale (101cm x 101cm) gallery wrapped canvas and using acrylics I have painted a white and pink dahlia in close focus to show the beauty of it’s petal pattern and colours.
I love exaggerating the colours reflected in the shadows on white surfaces and by using many thin layers of paint I have built up the depth and colour of each petal. Where sunlight directly lands I leave it nearly bleached of all colour to highlight the visual contrast.
I want the viewer to see what I see, an intricate web of reality built of light and structure. A world that is both beautiful and fleeting, which I have attempted to capture and freeze on canvas.

Roslyn Harris is a self-taught artist painting in both acrylic and watercolour and at present is specialising in large acrylic close-focus flowers. She loves painting the vibrant colours and intricate patterns of the natural world.
Previously Roslyn has painted both commissioned watercolour pet portraits and large watercolour flower paintings, for both domestic and international clients. But now she paints mainly in acrylics, enjoying the freedom acrylic allows.
Painting brings peace and beauty into her life.
