Wendi Leigh
The Quiet Observer

Acryl-gouache

Created as an evocative tension of domestic wear and warmth, watching something wild and quietly sovereign in an Aussie cockatoo sitting on one's porch railing, feels like looking at a kind of guardian or witness that is basically delivering a sense of nurture rather than receiving it. The stained glass reflection adds a whole other layer to this calming scene of domesticity, its daylight sun skipping off the tips of leaves, striking paths through colored glass; its light being transported, echoed, almost sanctifying the space like a quiet everyday chapel.
My work is created to bring hope and joy to the viewer in an otherwise anxious society.

Size: 120 × 60 cm

About Wendi Leigh

BIO 2026 Wendi Leigh

Based in Wollongong Wendi Leigh utilises the benefit of gouache on board to paint shapes and tones to suggest light and shadow without detail. Her subject matter creates new narratives about how humans and the environment relate to one another. In a primordial attempt on humanity’s part to understand and live in harmony with the beauty and wonder of creation, Wendi Leigh expresses this in objective imagery. The inspiration that man can draw from nature is endless, and her main body of work shows just some of the interactions that we have with our naturalistic instincts.
