Looking Down the Valley

Oil on birch panel

In the bushland near my home the Angophora's tower above steep ground and boulders clinging to the slope. Through the trees the valley, creek and distant urban scape is visible. Such an ancient place, I can feel the spirit of this place, of nature and of the Aboriginal Tribes that once called this place home.

Size: 68 × 73 cm

About noni ruker

With the beauty a central theme, I strive to elicit an emotional connection between the viewer and nature, evoking feelings of serenity, beauty, peace, and renewal. I aim to fill the canvas with the living breath of the landscape so the viewer can almost smell the eucalyptus, feel the dust rise after rain and sense the shimmer of light as it floods a valley at midday.

My art is about surrender, surrendering to the endless variations of weather, light and place, a reminder that to live in Australia is to live in dialogue with the elements.
