I chose to paint a cooked lobster on a plate because the round canvas reminded me of a dinner plate. I'm drawn to the shine and reflections on the lobster’s shell and enjoy the challenge of capturing those surfaces in paint. I also like painting animal forms, and I like eating lobster! So this piece brings together interesting visual details and my enjoyments. The lemon wedges and butter complete the meal and help make the composition feel inviting.
