Bruny Gums
Oil
Bruny Gums is a new addition to my series Roaming Landscapes which is an expanding body of work sharing my experiences of places hiked, paddled or simply sat within. Australia has limitless offerings to landscape artists and Tasmania contributes more than its share. The sheer reach of the main gum depicted in Bruny Gums is stunning.
It is colour and light that initially captures my attention. It is my intention then to create a sense of place that my audience can recognize or wish to experience for themselves. My process typically involves charcoal and pastel drawings directly from the setting and from photos taken to establish a composition and palette that leads the eye comfortably into and around the landscape.
I prefer to paint larger scale when resolving a painting & find the rich colour and sense of slowness of oil paint best for conveying my intentions.
Size: 95 × 95 cm
