Encaustic and Oils on Board
This work captures the raw beauty and vital energy of our coastal landscape, seen from above. Using encaustic and oil, I layer beeswax, pigment, and resin to evoke the ocean’s movement, depth, and light—creating a luminous, ethereal quality. Like bees, the ocean plays a crucial, often overlooked role in sustaining life. Through this piece, I invite reflection on our connection to these natural systems, and a renewed sense of reverence for their power and fragility. The medium itself mirrors the subject—fluid, alive, and layered—echoing the rhythms of tide, time, and the fragile balance of our planet.

About Natalija Vocanec
A practicing artist and educator for over 20 years, I create aerial landscapes in encaustic (beeswax, pigment, and resin) and oil, drawn to non-traditional viewpoints that explore our connection to land and self. Among several recognitions, I’ve recently been a finalist in both the Doyle Art Award and the Basil Sellers Art Prize. I founded a private art school 15 years ago to share technique and ignite creative courage. In a world that often disconnects us, I believe art is a human right—a vital act of expression, healing, and hope. Inspiring the next generation is my life’s true work.
