Detachment (Self-portrait)
Oil on Canvas
In my self-portrait “Detachment”, I use the act of shedding clothing to symbolise the release from external expectations, embracing vulnerability in both body and mind. The minimalist setting with its sparse furnishings, further emphasise this theme of detachment. Through the interplay of skin and light, I delve into the intimate relationship between the self and its surroundings, capturing the rawness of seeking and attaining inner peace.

About Rochelle Alahendra
Born in 1987, Rochelle’s paintings invite introspection and a return to one’s true self. Her work explores the contrast between external identity, recreated for validation – as depicted through shape and form – and the true self, represented through realism, in search of stillness within. Through this dialogue, Rochelle encourages viewers to reflect on their own identities, questioning the facades they present versus their innermost selves.
