Footloose and fleecy free

oil

I love driving around our backroads in North East Victoria. I happened to come across this dam that I've been to so many times and, on this day, the sheep had just been let out after shearing. They seemed so excited and feeling frisky investigating their new paddock and looking for the best feed. Not everything in agriculture is brutality, the majority of farmers care about the welfare of their animals, and this painting celebrates that.

About Kathy Ellem

Growing up on an apple orchard in Victoria, Australia, and then later living on remote cattle properties with her family. She began to paint seriously in 2002, struggling particularly with drawing she learned that persistence, over talent leads to success. ‘I want to create work that leaves people feeling up-lifted; to feel a sense of joy. I also want people viewing my paintings to feel connected to life on the land’.
