Hope – Helen Oxenham
Oil on Canvas
This portrait of Helen Oxenham was painted as a tribute to her legacy as both an advocate and a survivor. I wanted to honour Helen’s contribution to South Australia and continue the conversations about domestic violence. Her story is one of deep sorrow and immense strength, and I was particularly moved by the emotion in her eyes—the quiet yearning, but also the undeniable hope. Through this work, I hoped to capture that complexity. This painting not only cements her as a figure of strength in Adelaide’s history, but also pays tribute to her bravery and her willingness to fight for change. It stands as a visual reminder of Helen’s enduring courage, and a call to keep advocating for those whose voices are still unheard.
