Rose Eastwood Date
Lighthouse Beach

Acrylic Paint on Canvas

Since moving to Ballina, I’ve painted my local beaches, but Lighthouse Beach is my favourite—a wild yet sheltered place where bushland meets surf. This piece captures dusk’s fleeting light, long shadows stretching as the last wanderer crosses the sand. It’s an in-between moment: day tipping into night, sea blurring into land, cliffs resisting the tide. Driftwood marks the spring tide’s reach, a reminder of how the ocean reclaims this space.

Both loveable and eerie, the painting lingers in that uncanny threshold—where does the sea end and the beach begin? A quiet meditation on impermanence, and the way familiar places shift as light fades.

Size: 80 × 60 cm

About Rose Eastwood Date

Rose Date is a Ballina-based visual artist working primarily in painting, with a focus on evocative landscapes. Her practice explores the liminal spaces of coastal environments, capturing the interplay of light, land, and water with a moody, atmospheric sensibility. Alongside her painting, she brings a strong background in photography and graphic design—skills honed through creating promotional materials for musicians and artists, including book layouts and digital content. Her multidisciplinary approach informs her textured, layered compositions, where memory and place intertwine. Rose’s work celebrates the quiet drama of natural spaces, particularly the ever-shifting beauty of Northern NSW’s coastline.
