Linda Weedon
Nobody’s Wallflower

Acrylic on Stretched Canvas

This portrait explores presence, intimacy, and quiet strength. Created as a tribute to a fellow artist Michelle Taranto, it reveals her bare, inner essence.

Michelle is framed by her favourite plants, an essential part of her home life, grounding her in a space that is natural and intimate. Her tattoo is extended into the background, dissolving the boundary between subject and environment, creating a world that grows from her. This visual narrative includes symbolic elements; a gentle black dragon for her late beloved Labrador, two white gargoyle-like figures for her loyal chihuahuas, and a protective python representing her snake loving partner.

Different to the vivid, complex colours of Michelle's art, I've selected a palette of contrasting, subdued background hues, drawing immediate focus to the sitting figure. Luminous skin and a brazen, calm gaze leave you assured she is not decorative or peripheral. She is central, self-possessed, and fully seen...Nobody's Wallflower.

Size: 101 × 76 cm

About Linda Weedon

My creative dream was always to make art for myself and others. After years travelling and working across Australia, I returned to Queensland and a lifestyle that realised this dream, expanding my art practices, techniques and subject matter each day.
Initially, I specialised in animal portraiture, tapping into my instinctual love of things alive and capturing their character. Presently, using various styles, subjects and mediums, I'm forever inspired by perceptions of beauty, spirit and life, conveying this essence through my artworks.
I relish my creative freedom, resisting typical artist pigeonholing, allowing my practice and self to explore any new idea.
