Only the Memories
Ink and Oil on Canvas
My painting delves into the archetypal imagery of demolishment, a pervasive symbol in contemporary culture. The painting juxtaposes the chaotic remnants of deconstructed concrete, twisted steel rebar, and dust against the pristine backdrop of distant mountains and a small, preserved forest patch—a poignant commentary on the stark contrasts in our evolving landscapes.

About Dennis McCart
Brisbane artist Dennis McCart works across painting, drawing, animation, and machine learning, exploring the tension between our innate connection to nature and a growing sense of disconnection. His recent work focuses on self-portraiture, using masquerade to examine identity and diversity—placing himself in imagined dialogue with artists from history. With a background in fine art, drama, and digital media, and a Master of Visual Arts from QCA, McCart’s practice embraces repetition, remembrance, and reconstruction. He has exhibited widely and been a finalist in several major Australian art prizes.
