Outpour

Mixed media on canvas

Waterfalls fascinate me. Their capacity to shape, and even cut through, solid rock is symbolic of the power that water has. They are often the focus point of a beautiful hike, and once there the walker is overwhelmed by their sheer size, as well as the sensation of mist and the sound of the water pouring. In this way, water connects to our emotional state. This piece is called 'Outpour' for this reason.

Size: 68 × 98 cm

About Bridie Schmidt

Bridie Amelia Schmidt is an abstract landscape artist living and working in the Bundjalung nation also known as the Northern Rivers. Her work is deeply influenced by a love of, and strong connection to, nature.

She is fascinated by water, both as a life-giving element without which life on earth cannot exist and in its ability to shape the landscape. This theme is reflected in many ways: even if water itself does not appear in her work it is there in the fluidity of paint, embracing organic, random forms that emerge through the medium.
