Joanne Adler
Overland Track
oil on canvas
There is a soft tinker of gently running streams underfoot, with boggy patches oozing and water trickling through button grass tussocks. We pass a well- trodden wombat trail disappearing around the corner. It is peaceful and tranquil in the heart of this untouched Tasmanian wilderness, which almost makes you forget that brutal, natural forces have created this unforgiving, desolate landscape, in absolute isolation. Even the button grass has evolved to rely on destruction by bushfire to remain vibrant and thrive. The struggle between these competing forces - the serenity and the unrelenting - is, for me, the wild in wilderness.
Size: 102 × 122 cm
