Psalm Sixty Five in Teal
Oil
Milford Sound (or Piopiotahi) is one of the most breathtaking places in the world. This painting aims to capture the natural wonder of this iconic part of New Zealand’s Fiordland during the first rays of sunrise. The majesty and scale of the surrounding mountains, Lady Bowen Falls, and the fiord itself is highlighted by the relative insignificance of the township at the centre of the painting. Psalm 65 contains similar imagery of the awesome majesty of creation and righteousness. Cobalt teal was used to underpin the painting’s chromatic range and accurately capture the cool of the morning on the lush landscape, the clear sky and expanse of deep water.

About Mark Davis
Having grown up in the picturesque Shoalhaven region on the South Coast of New South Wales, Mark was originally inspired by the work of landscape artist, Leonard Long, whose professional career commenced in the area. Over the years, Mark has drawn inspiration from many other master painters, including those of Australia’s Heidelberg School and America’s Hudson River School. The subjects of Mark’s paintings reflect his deep interest in creation and theology. Since first exhibiting his work in his early teens, Mark has received many awards and has been recognised in both Australia and the United States.
