Jewel Maree Polkinghorne
Queenslander

oil on canvas

Gesture and expression are central to my process. I work intuitively allowing the movement of the brush and the physicality of the paint to guide the energy of the painting. I am drawn to the interplay of light and shadow, the subtleties of tone and the possibilities of colour to evoke atmosphere and emotion.
Our neighbour's timber house is seen through the abundant foliage of our garden, with all its' rich shades of green and textures. We are curious at this time as new neighbours have just moved in and I look upon the house with interest as I paint the scene.
Oil paint is employed to add depth of colour, glazes to deepen shadows and highlights to add light and movement.

Size: 60 × 50 cm
