Landscape

Julie McVarnock
Rocky Outcrop

Oil on canvas

On a recent trip to the East Coast of Tasmania, I glimpsed this scene from a distance. Although the landscape was very dry and not green as I had expected, I was very taken by this spindly group of trees, contrasted by a rocky formation.
I felt that the scene had an interesting composition. This painting is not intended as a highly detailed study, instead, I wanted to capture the simplicity of the landscape.

Size: 80 × 54 cm

About Julie McVarnock

I first learned how to paint in oils by attending evening classes at Newcastle TAFE. Having enjoyed these classes, I enrolled in the Art Certificate Course. Later on I returned to Brisbane and worked as a layout artist in a silk screen printing department.
I went on to complete my Diploma and Bachelor of Education at Kelvin Grove QUT and taught in Mt Isa , the Gold Coast, Brisbane.
Now retired, I am a member of RQAS, Broadbeach where I exhibit regularly, and enjoy painting alongside with fellow members..
