Gino Zatta
The dingo hunter

OIL

I chose to paint the dingo hunter to explore the complex relationship between people, land, and native wildlife that shapes Australia’s history. My journey from Italy to Africa and then to the Gold Coast has deepened my appreciation for individuals who live closely with nature and adapt to its challenges. The dingo hunter’s bush skills and unique bond with both dingoes and the landscape resonated with my passion for painting interesting people and their environments. Through this portrait, I aimed to capture not only the character of the hunter but also the broader narrative of how dingoes are viewed in Australian culture-sometimes as pests, sometimes as sacred, but always as a vital part of the land’s story. By painting the dingo hunter, I wanted to reflect on these themes and celebrate the resilience, complexity, and humanity of those living at the frontier between people and nature.

About Gino Zatta

I was born in Merano, Italy, and am a self-taught oil painter. My creative journey has taken me from Italy to Africa, where I lived for several years and gained a deep appreciation for different cultures and environments. For over 30 years, I have called the Gold Coast home, drawing inspiration from its natural beauty. Nature is central to my work-I love capturing its details and moods in my paintings. I am also passionate about painting portraits of interesting people I’ve met during my travels, aiming to reflect their unique stories and the richness of human experience.
