The Goldie
Acylic on collaged nautical charts
The Goldie explores depth, movement, and place through layered storytelling. Built from collaged nautical charts, the surface is softened with translucent acrylic and gesso, creating a sense of shifting water and memory. Emerging from this textured ground, two rays glide in quiet contrast—one luminous and warm, the other cool and shadowed—inviting the viewer into a suspended moment beneath the surface.
The composition draws the eye inward, guided by light, depth, and the gentle tension between presence and absence. As the water recedes toward the shoreline, fragments of the Gold Coast map reappear, anchoring the work in a real and familiar landscape.
Both contemplative and vibrant, The Goldie encourages a closer look—rewarding those who linger with subtle details, layered histories, and a sense of connection between sea and shore. Image reference: a still frame from drone footage by Johnny Gaskell, used with permission.
