Outside In explores the deeply personal and human ways we engage with landscape—not as distant observers, but as participants entwined in its rhythms. Though not a traditional vista, the painting offers a view through a window, a frame that shapes our perception and relationship to the world beyond. We do not merely look at landscape; we live with it, collect it, bring it inside. A rock on a shelf, a plant cutting in a pot—these small acts of gathering reflect our impulse to connect, to hold onto the fleeting and the wild. The landscape is not separate or static; it is a living presence, shaped by and shaping us in return. This work reflects on that intimacy—how landscape is not just “out there,” but within our homes, our thoughts, and our shared fate.

About Seabastion Toast
Seabastion Toast is a passionate and prolific painter whose vibrant canvases capture the essence of light, pattern and the beauty of everyday moments.
In 2024 Toast won the $40,000 Percival Portrait Prize. In 2023 she was awarded People's Choice in both the Portia Geach and Sunshine Coast Art Prizes. She has won the Darcy Doyle Award for Landscape painting twice and was in the top 8 finalists in the Evelyn Chapman Award. She also won two awards at the 2019 Glover Prize. She is regularly a finalist in many other prominent art prizes, She is represented by Anthea Polson Art.
