Barbara Conn
The Tai Chi Instructor
Oil on Canvas
Entering this painting is a tribute to a man who was a Tai Chi Instructor. My painting of this man created tension within him, so much so, that he returned to India to "retrain", to seek out the anger that he could see in my painting. What I saw as strength in his face and stance, he saw only anger.
The power of art.
Size: 90 × 120 cm

About Barbara Conn
Soon after beginning my painting journey, I realized that portraiture was to be my passion. I love to achieve likeness and reflect on a person’s mood and personality. Equally important is a focus on skin tone and the incorporation of light and shade. Using oil gives a texture that, for me, is lacking in other genres.
In 2023, I won First Prize at the Bell Art Show; a Highly Commended for another; and the Viewers’ Choice Award.
People’s Choice winner in 2022 at the Immanuel Arts Festival, Sunshine Coast.
Twice semi-finalist in the prestigious Doug Moran National Portrait Prize.
