Lorraine Hollis
This is Lu Lu

Acrylic on board

This work captures a moment of internal overwhelm held just beneath the surface. The figure folds inward, eyes closed, hands drawn tightly to the body—caught between containment and release. Set against an unrelenting field of pink, the intensity of the background presses forward, amplifying a sense of emotional exposure rather than softness.

Working from a neurodivergent perspective, I explore how sensory and emotional experiences can become heightened, disorienting, and difficult to articulate. Through layered brushwork and distortion of form, I aim to translate these internal states into something visible.

This painting is not a portrait of a person, but of a feeling—where tension, vulnerability, and resilience coexist in a single, suspended moment.

Size: 76.2 × 76.2 cm

About Lorraine Hollis

Lorraine Hollis is a multidisciplinary artist based in the Hunter Valley, New South Wales. Her practice explores human emotion through layered, mixed media works that investigate memory, identity, and psychological experience.

Working from a neurodivergent perspective, she engages intuitive, process-driven methods and material experimentation to express states that resist language—tension, fragility, and resilience. Influenced by her surroundings and lived experience, her work captures what is often unseen yet deeply felt, creating visual records of internal life where personal and collective experience intersect.
