Threads of the Range

Acrylic on Canvas

Having since spent more than a decade living in the Tweed NSW, I continue to return to the area as a source of inspiration for my art—particularly around Murwillumbah, where the rolling fields and expansive vistas draw me in.
Over time, I have explored this landscape through photography and plein air practice, working with ink, watercolour, and soft pastel across a wide range of weather conditions. My focus on capturing light and movement has gradually led me toward an impressionistic approach, influenced in part by the work of John Russell. The repetitive brush strokes feel almost meditative to me unlike stitching a painting together. I tend to completely tune out and can lose hours immersed in the process.
This painting is an expanded interpretation of one of those earlier studies that I completed.

Size: 64 × 94.5 cm

About Mia Pippen

Mia is a multidisciplinary artist and educator based on the Gold Coast, where she lives surrounded by native bushland with her husband, two cats, and the occasional visiting wallaby.
In recent years, she has been experimenting in her creek-side studio, exploring a range of styles and techniques across ceramics, drawing, digital media and painting. These processes often intersect, resulting in distinctive and highly individual works.
Her practice is deeply informed by the natural environment and over 30 years of life drawing experience.
