Wajarr Country
Acrylic on Canvas
"Wajarr Country" is a profound artistic representation of the spiritual and physical journey between Gumbaynggirr and Ngarluma lands. Through vibrant colors and dynamic compositions, this piece celebrates the rich tapestry of Aboriginal communities encountered along these sacred routes/songlines. The artwork captures the essence of growing up with the wisdom of my Elders, often revisiting stories and sacred places near the railway tracks, a symbol of connection and movement across time and space.
At its core, the piece embodies a deep-seated love and reverence for the diverse landscapes—from the ocean's calming embrace to the vibrant, fiery hues of the red dirt country. Each brushstroke tells a story, reflecting both the geographical and emotional journey of traversing these lands, highlighting the profound relationship between the artist, the land, and the communities that animate it.
This artwork is not only a visual journey but also a narrative that underscores the connection.
