Where light falls
Soft Pastel
While on an art retreat in Tasmania, I came across this banksia pod and was struck by the bold shadow it cast in the midday sun. I placed it on a weathered timber bench, and the natural contrast between light and dark immediately called me to capture it in pastel. The crisp form of the pod against the soft grain of the wood created a moment of quiet drama. I love working in fine detail with pastel pencils, and this piece became a meditation on light, shadow, and the beauty of native forms often overlooked.
