Sigrid Patterson
Winter shadows

Acrylic on polycotton

I have a favourite shelf in my studio that captures amazing early morning light and shadows. It is intense in the Summer months with the stark white background of the wall and long elongated shadows that tend to set my theme for the day. I paint many series there, particularly in the midst of Summer and get lost in the contrasts (in a good way).
This year, as we moved into the Winter months, the light directions changed, the background light became more subdued and warm with golden hues and dancing shadows. It made for a beautiful transition into the season. Winter shadows is the first painting of this transition showing the move to pink flowering plants from the garden against warm hugs of shadows.

Size: 104 × 79 cm

About Sigrid Patterson

Based in the hinterland of Byron Bay. Many of her pieces embrace the story telling power of flowers. She has extended this use of floriography to include Australian native plants and favourite and found vessels.
Sigrid often includes reflective surfaces encouraging the viewer to reflect on the stories within, and shadows, to take the viewer on a journey of what lies behind. Always happy to tell the stories that are woven within her pieces, Sigrid is keen for the viewer to see, take and interpret her work as they wish.
