Brooke van Ruiswyk
Wintering

Oil on canvas

As the brooding clouds hover, persistent rain once again sweeps across the already sodden land. Sculpted by the relentless winds, the familiar pines line the coastal fields, providing me with refuge from the elements. It’s isolated, and the air is crisp from the season, but once again I find myself drawn back home, wintering. Surrounded by this evocative landscape I am filled with nostalgia, flooded with memories of my childhood spent on the farm. Alone, I allow myself to get lost in thoughts of past times when things felt simpler; perhaps they were.
