Eira-Shay Barker-Hart
Laying with wolves

Oil and Charcoal on Wood Panel

As a girl, I used to have a recurring dream that wolves would surround my house, and I could not escape. A pack lived on the mountain behind us; I would often hear them howl into the endless nights of the Canadian winter. The terrifying sound chilled deeper than the wind or snow.
Now, the sound fills me with joy and a sense of wildness. When I feel lonely living far away, I think of those wolves, throw my head back and smile, remembering home.

About Eira-Shay Barker-Hart

Eira-Shay is a figurative painter from a remote island off the west coast of Canada. She is deeply inspired by the wildness of the natural environment and the reintegration of humanity within it.

She is a self-taught artist who has developed her unique style though the exploration of different mediums. Organic elements are an essential the art making process, in particular the use of natural woodgrain as part of her works composition with highlights of natural wood revealed within the paintings. Each expressive mark of charcoal or softly layered glaze is a declaration of emotion and an ode to nature.
