His Story
Watercolour
The Hawkesbury, a series of waterways where the complex network of valleys and peninsulas allows one to quickly find themselves alone, despite the water traffic. The sounds of the outside world are lost, dampened by the dense foliage and geometry of the landscape. With still waters reflecting a grey sky, one’s view is reduced to a carpet of khaki comprising a million small vibrant colours, buried in trunks, leaves and the ancient sandstone. It is a place that exudes stories, and yet is unchanged from a thousand years past.
In this work, the paper is left blank above and below, emphasizing the singularity of the landscape. A solo angler steps into the dark waters, fished by mankind for millennia. The speed boat, a more recent introduction, breaks the boundary to the scene. An ode to the vast history of these rivers, and of the all the small individual stories.

About Oliver Kas
Oliver is a watercolour artist, raised in the Northern Rivers and currently residing in Armidale, NSW. His works explore the natural and manmade beauty of the everyday, with subjects inspired by regional Australia and Europe.
From a young age, Oliver displayed a keen interest in drawing, relishing the challenge of accurately capturing a subject in its simplest and truest form. However, this inclination towards drafting complex shapes and exploring perspective led him instead to a career in engineering. It is only in the last few years that Oliver has rediscovered a passion for the creative, and begun pursing watercolour art.
