‘Remains of the Control Room at The Space Tracking Centre, Orroral Valley’

Oil paint and ink on aluminium composite

I am drawn to painting landscapes mainly as a way of exploring a sense of the animal histories (mainly human) that have shaped and scarred them, using a range of approaches and tools (rollers, spray paint, ink, silicon, stencils, scrapers etc.) to achieve this.

This is one in a series of paintings which depicts the old Orroral Space Tracking Station outside Canberra. My intention is to convey the surreal conjunction of the traces of a deep space project nestled in an unpopulated valley. I hope that the bright blue sky hints at the celestial nature of the project and contrasts with the very terrestrial nature of the remaining debris.

Size: 128 × 73 cm
