BORDER RANGES FROM ABOVE
Oil on Canvas
The Border Ranges straddle the Queensland and New South Wales border, a landscape I once knew intimately on foot — weekends spent threading through rainforests, descending into gorges, and chasing waterfalls through the ancient caldera of Wollumbin.
This painting captures a fleeting moment from an aeroplane window on a Brisbane to Melbourne flight. From above, the familiar becomes abstract: ridgelines dissolve into texture, the deep green of subtropical canopy folds into shadow and light. And there, just beneath the wing, Wollumbin pierces the clouds, its peak unmistakable even from this height.
This landscape holds its own quiet grandeur whether you are standing inside it, or watching it pass beneath you.
