Barbara Harkness
Still Glides the Stream – After Streeton

Oil on Board

I am inspired by the Heidelberg School of artists, particularly Tom Roberts and Arthur Streeton. Their whole practise evolved around capturing the light on the day. Without it, even the most skilful painting fails to connect with its audience.
This work was inspired by a scene at Lake Dulverton, Oatlands, Tasmania, painted during an art retreat. I first created a small plein air study on site, then developed it into a larger painting in my studio, expanding both scale and depth while remaining true to the immediacy of the original moment.

Size: 56 × 66 cm

About Barbara Harkness

I was born an artist; this fact revealed itself to me when I discovered crayon and chalk. Art, for me, is fluid and simply part of my evolving journey; an ongoing reflection of who I am and how I see the world. Though currently grounded in Realism and Surrealism, I remain open to wherever creativity may lead. My practice is both a personal exploration and a means of connection; a way to deepen my understanding of life and to share it with others.
