Bone House
Oil on Canvas
My skull is a big bone house
as wide as a canyon
as narrow as a crack of the door
It’s cluttered with nicknacks, trinkets,
old toys
and that hair tie I always misplace
There’s dust as far as the eye can see
but I have a hard time letting things go.
I am very familiar with the silence
with the space
with being alone
Space is wonderful
silence is wonderful
except
I wish you would leave footprints where the dust used to be
Look at you. I want you around.
Tip-toe quietly
or trample loudly
kicking up dust
There has never been a more welcome guest
a more treasured visitor
than you.
I am grateful for every sound
every sensation
in this tender reality.
Or is it a dream?
Linger in the mirror a little longer. I want to see your face
I see my interior in your exterior.
