Turbulence
Oil paint on linen
In early 2025 my partner and I experienced a freak 10-minute cyclone that damaged our studio (while my partner was in it!). A month later cyclone Alfred began its slow approach to the east coast and having experienced the destructive forces of the previous storm we decided to leave our home and stay five hours away in a small country town, Uralla, where we would be safe from harm with other artist friends of ours who had the same idea. During this stressful period, awaiting the outcome of the storm for our homes, friends and community, we spent our days exploring the tranquil landscape in an attempt to take our minds off our fears. This painting started off as an homage to that serene landscape, but serendipitously the clouds had a mind of their own, and as I painted them they revealed an inner turbulence that I could not escape.
Size: 68 × 92 cm
