Annette Raff
As if in a dream

Mixed media on paper

Disjointed "As if in a dream", multiple viewpoints converge and overlap; gigantic flowers appear, and tree limbs seem to vanish and leave the view to contemplate. I have always been fascinated by the human practice of cultivating plants and the way our gardens reflect ourselves, allowing for some manipulation and resisting others. I have looked to David Hockney's concept of space and William Robinson's technique of immersing the viewer in the landscape, who both have an interest in depicting complicated landscapes. I used several different photographs, returned to the scene several times and used sketches revealing different perspectives.

Size: 34 × 52 cm
