Blue ceramics
Oil on canvas
This selection of blue ceramics came from a gift and furniture shop and the neutral, cream cup was made by dear friend, ceramic artist, Anna Markey. The Waterhousea floribunda cutting is from my garden. I love the vibrant array of foliage from these native Australian plants including lime greens to neutral pinks. Like this arrangement, I often place objects around my home in 3’s and they are always mismatched. I love discords in patterns and designs and how a single element, shape or tone allows them to work together. It’s like a metaphor for healthy relationships and humanity - there is a commonality that makes it interesting and beautiful. With this piece, I aimed to capture lightness and an effortless, informality. The cloth is crushed and spread casually to allow more interesting shapes and shadows. I want the piece to exude a sense of welcoming peacefulness.
Size: 64 × 64 cm
