Breaking Light, Burleigh
oil
Breaking Light, Burleigh is inspired by the shifting coastal skies of South East Queensland, where weather moves quickly across open water. A low, sweeping cloud formation dominates the composition, interrupted by a break in light that draws the eye through the painting. The work captures a transitional moment, where the intensity of the storm begins to ease and light returns across the horizon. Painted in oil using restrained colour and softened transitions, the focus is on atmosphere rather than detail. The landscape itself is reduced to a quiet presence beneath the sky, allowing the movement and weight of the weather to take focus. The painting reflects the balance between tension and release, where the sky holds its structure, but the light begins to shift, signalling the passing of the storm.

About Lucinda Leveille
Lucinda Leveille is an Australian landscape artist based in the Gold Coast Hinterland, Queensland. Working primarily in oil, her practice focuses on atmosphere, distance and the quiet that follows weather. Her paintings distil the landscape to essential elements - sky, land and light - often anchored by a solitary tree or open horizon. Rather than depicting specific locations, her work explores the emotional and psychological experience of place. Leveille studied at the National Art School in Sydney and has exhibited extensively, with her work held in private collections across Australia.
