Nicole Slattery
Burleigh at First Light

oil on canvas

Burleigh at First Light reflects a moment where the coastline feels both expansive and intimate, framed by the quiet shelter of overhanging pandanus leaves and the steady rhythm of the ocean. In this work, I was drawn to the subtle shifts of colour and atmosphere that emerge just before sunrise. The viewer has stumbled upon a quiet vantage point, just before the day fully begins. The city in the distance sits lightly on the horizon, present but not dominant.
I aimed to capture the sensory experience of being there: the salt air, the sound of waves against stone, and the stillness that exists just before the world becomes busy.

Size: 61 × 92 cm
