Ghost Gums Ross Highway NT

Acrylic on canvas sheet, timber frame .

Ghost Gums (24 species) are across the plains of the MacDonnell Ranges. In season the bark turns powdery white and the dust is used to paint in tribal ceremony. It was believed that the glow of the trees at night signified the presence of living spirits. This stand was along the Ross Highway in the Eastern MacDonnells.
