Harbour Nocturne, Setting Sun, is one of a series of paintings on a theme I have worked on over many years and return to often. The Harbour has always fascinated me, and whilst living have experienced it many different times of the day and a variety of climatic conditions. The evening light, transitioning from daylight to twilight has always been one of my favourite times as the light dissolves the distinct forms of the landscape and ignites the water with its varied offerings. It was a privilege to have lived on the shores of the Sydney Harbour for many years it is a subject I revisit often, part nostalgia part to remind me as I am and to now be immersed in the landscape of Leura and the Blue Mountains.

About Graham Marchant

Graham Marchant is a Blue Mountains based artist who relocated to Australia in 1981 from England. Trained to master’s level in the UK, he gained a PhD from Newcastle University in 2013. He has been the recipient of innumerable awards and artist residencies having worked in Paris; Italy; Spain, United Kingdom; New York and Vermont as well as undertaking residencies in Australia. He has had twenty-six one-person exhibitions and participated in over seventy significant group exhibitions. He taught for many years at tertiary level at Western Sydney University and Sydney University. His principles activities are painting (oil and watercolour) drawing
