Helping One’s Self
Oil on Linen
This little fellow has had a wonderful time with his bounty. Painted largely from life and some imagination (mouse) thrown in.
I wanted to paint a traditional style still life, concentrating on the light and shadow effects, using the old Venetian technique, but add a cheeky twist of a little creature that may have had a bit too much to drink to add a light hearted warm feeling to the work.
The mouse is a creature not liked by many, but in this case he seems to be quite at home and adds a friendliness and extra point of interest to the work.
Size: 45 × 55 cm

About Kerri Haslem
I am an Australian born Artist living in Queensland, painting in oils on Italian glue sized linen. I have a wide variety of genres that interest me, including still lives, animals, birds, people, narrative and landscapes.
My interest is mainly in painting realism using the the multi layered Venetian method, made famous by the old masters such as Rembrandt, Rubens, Vermeer and Poussin (to name a few).
I interests me to explore taking a modern subject or objects and paint and present it in a very old way.
