Oil on Linen

Dad loved burning things in the old 44-gallon drum on our farm, often with more enthusiasm than environmental awareness, heading out with a glint in his eye and a spring in his step. So, when I saw the barrier mesh sitting up jauntily in this bin at an outback cattle station, I was at once reminded of him. The title is a nod to the cheeky way he signed my 21st birthday key, just JP Roche - not even a love from! We would all sign our cards in that manner from that day on. I miss him and his playful sense of humour every day.
